IT lead / CIO
The experienced head of technology — strategy, decisions and oversight — without the cost of a full-time hire.
AI & Automation · Technology Strategy · Project Leadership · 18+ years
I help Malaysian SMEs use AI and technology that actually works — without the hype, or the regret.
I sit on your side of the table — helping you choose the right AI and technology, then keeping the whole project fair, organised and on track: your team, your vendors and the work, all aligned through to delivery — and well beyond.

The noise
Every week there's a new AI tool — and a new influencer, trainer or reseller promising you can "just use ChatGPT" or vibe-code your whole business overnight. Cheap, fast, easy, the answer to everything.
Some of it genuinely works. A lot of it is surface-level hype — and plenty of businesses end up cleaning up the mess six months later: broken automations, leaked data, money spent on the wrong tools.
Where I stand
My expertise is the practical side of AI and technology — knowing what genuinely works, what's just hype, and how to make it fit a real business. That comes from 18+ years in IT, consulting and project management, and from working with AI hands-on as it's matured.
That's why people bring me in before an AI project — to sense-check whether an idea is genuinely viable, or to help design and deliver it properly. And sometimes after, to untangle something that's already gone sideways.
I'm not a researcher chasing the frontier — and for your business, that's the point. You don't need the latest experiment; you need the right foundation, set up to improve and scale as you grow.
01
I don't just advise and leave. On every project I act as part of your team — giving honest feedback, choosing the right approach, steering you clear of the traps, and managing the work through to delivery.
When there are vendors, developers or solution providers involved, I keep everyone accountable and pulling in the same direction — looking after your interests, while helping your team and theirs work together smoothly.
Decide what AI and technology actually fit your business — and what to ignore
Adopt it properly — set up to be safe, governed, and made to last
Stay vendor-neutral — honest advice, because I'm not selling you any single product
Whatever the role — advising, leading the project, or delivering the full solution with trusted partners — it all runs through my company, Kiizen IT Consulting → kiizen.com.my

I'm usually brought in as the senior technology person a business doesn't have in-house — or the experienced hand an agency or firm needs working alongside their own team.

Delivery
Owning a system from idea to launch — and the improvements after — keeping scope, vendors, timeline and the people building it on track.
Design
How the pieces should fit — systems, integrations, data and the business around them — mapped out before the build starts.
Advisory
Sense-checking whether an AI idea is genuinely viable — then a practical plan to design and deliver it, or an honest no if it isn't worth it.
Governance
Keeping the project, the data and the vendors in check — clear standards, sensible safeguards and proper documentation, so nothing rests on any one person.
Independent
A neutral, experienced voice in the room — sitting in, asking the questions others don't, and flagging risks early. There to oversee and advise, not to take over.

The 4S is the standard I hold everything to — every recommendation, every solution, every project I deliver. Before anything goes into your business, it has to pass four questions:
Does it fit your business as it is now — your team size, your budget and your real objectives — without needless complexity?
Is it the smart, long-term play — implemented properly, aimed at your future goals, with a tech stack that won't expire or lock you to one vendor?
Will it grow with you? As your team and business expand, it stretches through new modules, integrations and workflows — not a costly rebuild.
Is it properly supported — by me, and by vendors who are local, timely and still around for the long run — with staff trained and real documentation, so anyone can take it over?
Clear all four, and it's a solution worth building on. Fall short on any one, and it needs more thought before it goes anywhere near your business.

AI and IT change every week, so staying current is part of the job — and I stay current by doing, not by watching a hype video and parroting it back.
I evaluate, research and test what's new, then design and build with it — using AI as a virtual assistant, automating my own work, and putting together small tools I genuinely use. Sometimes that's on models I run locally to keep things private; just as often, it's simply to understand how the technology really works.
That's how I know the gist of what I'm proposing before it ever reaches you. And if something's new to me, I'll be the first to say so — then go and learn it properly.

Much of my work sits under NDA and stays my clients' intellectual property — discretion is part of how I earn long-term relationships. So here's the shape of it, rather than the names.
Who I work with
Professional services
IT consultant and project manager on a group-wide ERP implementation across a listed Berhad holding company and its subsidiaries — and oversaw the custom development and integration of their internal systems with the ERP.
Professional services
For the same group, led their Malaysia e-Invoice (LHDN) compliance — consulting and project management on the middleware bridging the ERP and internal systems to keep e-invoicing in sync, with ongoing improvement as the rules evolve.
AI
External IT consultant on an AI-powered system that lets a bakery run the whole operation in one place — orders, customer service, deliveries, inventory and the kitchen — with AI and automation woven through every layer.
Fractional
Acting as fractional IT manager for a cloud and managed-services provider — senior oversight, structure and technology decisions without a full-time hire.
Hospitality
The IT delivery partner on a multilingual hotel website with a custom loyalty portal — brought in alongside the agency to rescue an at-risk delivery after the original tech partner dropped out, then stabilise it through to launch.
Training & education
Consultant, project and product manager for setting up a learning-management and online course platform — from scoping through to launch.

I share practical, hype-free thinking on AI and technology for Malaysian businesses — where the conversation already happens.

Systems thinking
I'm Ryan. For most of my career I've been brought in early — when an idea is still fuzzy and someone needs to create order before anything gets built. What I learned is that most problems aren't really technical; they're system problems — things not lining up, one decision quietly breaking another. So I think in systems, and I ask a lot of questions up front to find clarity before the building starts. That instinct is why I started Kiizen, my consulting practice, ten years ago.
The practice
I've run it hands-on ever since — staying close to every project rather than hiring it out, and partnering with trusted vendors and dev teams when the work calls for it. That breadth is deliberate: it's what lets me give honest, unbiased advice, and tell the difference between what genuinely works and what's just noise. My focus now is helping businesses adopt AI and technology the right way — so it fits, lasts, and earns its place.
Why Ipoh
Most of my clients are in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. I could base myself there — but I chose Ipoh, to be near my parents and so my kid grows up around their grandparents. It's a long-term call over a convenient one, and it's the same judgment I bring to your technology. I'm in KL often for work; everything else runs perfectly well from here.
How I show up
However I'm brought in, the way I work stays the same: steady, honest, and on your side — focused on what genuinely fits your business and lasts, not just what's quick or trendy.
